University of Zakho Supports Refugee Students at 2026 DAFI Scholarship Graduation Ceremony
In support of and to encourage refugee students, the Assistant President of the University of Zakho for Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ramadan Jaafar Mustafa, accompanied a number of refugee students from the University of Zakho in participating in the 2026 graduation and recognition ceremony of the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative (DAFI) Scholarship Programme.
The ceremony was held on 23 September 2026 at Divan Hotel, in collaboration with Surooh Organization for Sustainable Development. The event aimed to celebrate the achievements of refugee students who had successfully completed their higher education at Iraqi universities with outstanding academic results.
During the ceremony, recognition was given to the significant support provided by Iraqi universities in general, and the University of Zakho in particular, as well as by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in promoting and facilitating refugees’ access to higher education. The ceremony also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation, enhancing capacity-building initiatives, and expanding employment opportunities for refugees and host communities.
Since the establishment of the DAFI Programme in Iraq in 2016, a total of 488 young refugee women and men have gained access to higher education through the programme’s support and have gone on to make meaningful and positive contributions to their communities.
